Three Ingredient Homemade Peanut Butter

Three ingredient homemade peanut butter so easy and delicious, you’ll never go back to store bought.

Peanut butter. I’ve yet to meet anyone that doesn’t like it-unless they’re allergic. It’s packed with protein and healthy fats, and if you make it yourself it only has three ingredients (technically, you can make it with just peanuts but I like some sweetness in mine so I add honey). I promise you will never go back to buying expensive jars once you try homemade peanut butter.

Okay, but like… why should you be making your own?

I get it, there’s a ton of cheap peanut butter at the grocery store. But as I’ve discussed in my Homemade Butter blog, most of what’s for sale at the store has either chemicals your body doesn’t need or…palm oil. What’s palm oil? An oil harvested in the tropics which has a substantial effect on the environment and the ecosystems that are destroyed to collect it. Also, you really just don’t need it in your diet- and you definitely don’t need it in your peanut butter.

What does making homemade peanut butter require? Isn’t this going to be hard?

Nope, all you need is a food processor or a blender plus some peanuts, honey, and salt. Throw some cinnamon in if you want. This takes less than ten minutes, and if your food processor is anything like mine, the PB is going to be warm when it’s first done.

Homemade Peanut Butter Ingredients:

  • 16 oz container of dry roasted unsalted peanuts (it’s best to control the salt on your own)
  • 2 Tbsp honey (make sure your honey is pure and SHOP LOCAL if you can)
  • 1 tsp salt

How to make peanut butter

Pour the peanuts into your food processor. Pulse a few times on high. Once it looks like the second picture below, add the honey and salt. Run on high for two minutes or once the mixture looks like the third picture. Mix it around with a spatula, then run on high until it is smooth and creamy. This should take about five minutes. NOTE: This is very food processor dependent. As of 2024, my food processor takes 10 minutes to reach the desired consistency. Don’t let it fool you, it will ball up for a minute- you need to let it run for a few minutes after that. It will ultimately look like the fourth image.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I do, drop me a comment and let me know how it turns out!

Additional note now that I am a parent to a six month old: OMIT HONEY if you are giving this to an infant under one!
